Kent deserves journalism that does more than repeat press releases or chase the latest outrage.

We started the Kent Current because we believe local journalism should explain what’s happening across the county, ask difficult questions, and hold those with power to account. Our reporting is independent, reader-funded and free from corporate ownership, advertising and clickbait.

Most of what we publish is available free to everyone. Readers who choose to support us financially help fund that work while receiving additional editions, investigations and interviews.

Who we are

The Kent Current was founded by Ed Jennings and Steven Keevil after years covering local politics and communities across Kent.

Having worked in local news, blogging and independent publishing, we believed the county deserved something different: journalism that takes its readers seriously, spends time explaining complicated issues and is prepared to challenge those in power.

Today, the Kent Current covers everything from county politics and transport to housing, healthcare, culture and investigations, helping readers understand the decisions shaping life across Kent.
